Team Development

The Hawthorne studies at the Western Electric Company in Chicago (1924 to 1932) showed that employees often act and react not as individuals but as members of a group and that interpersonal relations and informal groups inside a company have an influence on employee satisfaction as well as on their achievements.

Many Group Determinants

Many types of groups can be differentiated on the basis of underlying criteria (duration, objectives, organizational complexity, grade of autonomy, degree of formality).

The most important characteristics of a group include its size, structure, solidarity, attitudes/standards as well as its authority to make decisions.

It is not easy to deal with issues concerning leadership as well as the efficiency of a group in this context, requiring differentiated efforts by our consultants.

Phases of Group Formation

  • Forming: First rules are established, limits are tested as well as the first targets defined
  • Storming: Discrepancies about common actions and the right way to achieve targets
  • Norming: Norms, values and expectations are developed.
  • Performing: Successful teamwork phase
  • Adjourning: Disbandment of the team

Team Promoting Programs

The ultimate goal of each measure is to increase team performance and satisfaction of the group members. The actual targets are however always in line with the current problems of the group. We offer team development promoting measures as in-house seminars and as outdoor events. Similarly to all the other consulting services provided by PAB HRConsulting, these are made-to-measure solutions.
